Every individual living on planet Earth has exactly 24 hours in a day. Why does one person achieve all his goals and get the best from life, while another constantly faces certain problems and cannot become a more successful and happy person? The thing is that in the first case the individual thinks about the future and treats his own life as a long-term project, while in the second case the person lives for today and does not want to think about the future.
People who think that life planning is trivial, boring and restrictive will never be able to achieve the results they want. And this is not surprising, because without a properly drawn up plan for the year, it is almost impossible to expand your own capabilities, unleash your creative potential and improve your quality of life. Any successful person will agree with this.
How to make a plan for the year? How to set goals for 12 months? Do I need to create a draft plan for the year? What are the basic principles of planning your own life? In this article we will discuss these and other issues related to life planning and drawing up a plan for the year.
Basic principles of life planning
At the first stage, we make a draft list of goals.
It’s convenient to start collecting goals and taking a closer look at them in December. You can test them to see if they suit you; if it’s vocals, go for a trial lesson. But even before starting to draw up a plan, it is useful to accept the principles so that moving according to the plan will be a joy:
- The rocking principle: “No pain, no growth.” Controlled stress makes us stronger. It pays to work hard this year, knowing that next year we will get additional opportunities.
- Life is long. A goal achieved with pleasure in a month is better than grinding your teeth in 2 weeks. You should take it at a calm pace, not a sprint. It is more effective to set “pace” goals rather than overachievement goals.
- Constant growth. Most of my life is filled with people, ideas, work that were not even in my dreams 5 years ago. I dreamed at the beginning of the year, got excited, and by the end I was surprised.
- No extra effort. I am against hellish achievements, I am for habit and system. Running 5 km every day is easier than running a half marathon every 4 days.
Important Rituals and Habits for Personal Development
We grow by repeating things over and over again. According to one psychological study, it takes 66 days to form a new habit. Following new healthy habits will help you reach your full potential.
Learn every day
Ordinary people want ease and entertainment. Extraordinary people seek challenges and new knowledge.
True learning is a complex process that involves more than just the accumulation of knowledge. There is a difference between knowledge and understanding. You don't really know something until you have experienced it, until you can simply explain it and do it. I can read all the books about building a computer. But until I build a computer myself, I don't really know. Theory and life experience are two completely different things.
Therefore, do not study only from books. Put into practice what you learn from books and do real things. Make mistakes. Gain experience.
Keep a diary
If you don't journal, you're missing out. This activity has many benefits. And it doesn't require serious effort. In fact, it is recommended to do this for 5-10 minutes a day.
And there is no right or wrong way to journal. You can use it to record important events that have happened. Or to write down your goals and attitudes. Or use for interesting ideas and inspiration. Or simply dump negative emotions into it.
What is useful to write in a diary:
- Write 15 times every day about the goal you want to achieve. Moreover, write down goals and attitudes in the present tense (for example, “I am married to the girl of my dreams. I am married to the girl of my dreams. I am married to the girl of my dreams”).
- Write down your other goals and keep task lists. I usually write down my weekly, monthly, and yearly goals at least once a week. Repetition embeds these goals into my subconscious and allows me to find new opportunities that I might have missed without journaling.
- Write about important events that you don't want to forget.
- Write about existential issues (principles, God, the universe, and life in general).
- Write about the most important people in your life (wife, children, parents, mentors).
Exercise
If you want to be a healthy, happy, and productive person, make it a habit to exercise regularly.
Exercising reduces the likelihood of depression, anxiety and stress. They also influence career success. If you don't take care of your body, other aspects of your life will suffer.
Target Sources
The main source of goals for the year is our personal meaning in life . If we have compiled it, it will be much easier for us in the future: to determine what is valuable to us in the year and what to discard. Or we will start from the idea of what we want to achieve in 5 years. I give abbreviated examples.
My draft version of the personal meaning of life: to figure out “Who am I?” and where I am. Goals for the year: read books on psychology, philosophy, religion. Expand the “I” – unusual behavior, roles, habits, self-image, travel.
If we have determined our purpose, global goals, personal mission or values, we take them into account and plan goals that bring them closer or realize them. If the plan doesn’t work for them, then either the plan is bullshit or global goals.
My purpose: to help others achieve their goals. Goals for the year: creating a vision and implementing the project.
Global goal: to realize oneself as an entrepreneur in business. Diversified development. Goals for the year: work on website development, gathering a team, learning to write and edit articles.
Values: family, development, novelty, peace of mind, health. Goals for the year: try the unknown, step to the next level, improve yourself in relationships.
Sources of goals for planning your life.
The third source for life planning is our Wishlist :
- Dreams: learn to draw, sing.
- I have long wanted to: repeat a one-arm pull-up, weigh 63 kg, bend a spoon, visit Chile.
- Vision of an ideal day 12/20/2025: successful company, Spanish language, sports, vocals, family and children.
- List of 100 wishes: a bunch of goals for, family and future role in it.
- Life balance wheel: I fill all sectors to 9-10. I've been using it for a long time, I've already cleaned out the main stuff.
The fourth geyser is “I don’t want” reformulated into “I want”:
I'm angry that I have little energy ⟶ Explore your energy. Close old mini-goals ⟶ Make cheesecake. Crafts from napkins.
Why is it important to plan?
Planning, of course, is not a panacea, but it is still a great kick and stimulant. It’s like a pill that energizes you and brings structure into your life. I’ll tell you why planning is a must have:
- Planning sets priorities. Allows you to concentrate on a specific task and not be distracted by others.
- You know what needs to be done and when. Accurate to the minute, and sometimes even to the second.
- All plans in one place. I forgot something - I looked and was ready to move towards my goal again.
- Plans are easy to move without losing quality. When you clearly see what can be moved and what can be done without a queue.
- There is more time for rest and self-development. When everything goes according to plan, you can speed up your business and be free at the right time.
- When you set goals and objectives yourself, you take a more responsible approach to your life, thereby understanding what you really want.
How to make a rough plan
It is convenient to draw up draft plans for the future in electronic format. It’s a hassle on paper; you’ll need to constantly edit the list of goals. I made over 50 edits to the last plan.
For clarity, we break down our goals into areas of life, like in the wheel of life. We write down all the goals that come to mind for each source.
Use the templates:
Template with goals: open, , Google.docs, Evernote.
Life planning template: open, Google.docs, Evernote.
We take each source of goals, come up with and write goals based on it, without much analysis. First, let's just put everything together. There is a personal meaning to life - we wrote down goals to realize it. There is a purpose - they wrote it out. Old dreams are written out. We did the 100 desires exercise and wrote down the 10–15 most burning ones. We imagine ourselves in 10 years, where and with whom – we write it out.
We make a plan for the year - write down all the goals.
I draft it in a week. I spend three more weeks editing, agreeing on goals, and adjusting it to reality. I have all my goals and long-term plans written down in a notebook, more than 30 pages of different wants and dreams. I leaf through it and write down what I would like to implement now, repeat 4-5 times.
Within each sphere, create 3-4 goals. We leave only the most want-to-can-do, mentally imagine how you will fulfill the goal, if you don’t imagine it, cross it out.
I recommend creating a backup plan: moving there all the goals that do not fit into the annual plan. When you manage and have nothing to do, the goals are already ready.
If you are making a plan for the first time, it is better to plan simpler goals and 2-3 goals at a time. If you dream of running a marathon, set a goal of running 5 km to start. You will have time to complicate the goal. Initially, everyone overestimates their abilities. If after six months you close the plan, make a plan for the remaining year, with the joyful feeling that everything you planned has worked out.
Future plans should take into account your experience.
If you look at the draft and anxiety appears, “How will I manage to do all this?” – lighten it up so it’s rich but not overwhelming. The more experienced you are, the more you will plan your own way.
How to formulate correctly
The way the goals themselves are written matters a lot. The wording should be short and accurately reflect the task. In addition, it is advisable that the goals you write are tied to certain images. This way, it will be easier for you not to forget about them. Some people even make collage plans. They display not only the target, but also its image.
How to make a work plan for the year if there are no specific goals? Sometimes it really happens that a person himself does not know what he wants. Many management experts argue that a plan should be made depending on the areas of life. For each, you need to choose one important goal and write down tasks for it.
Recommendations for setting goals for the year
- Check each goal using the algorithm for setting an individual goal. Read: How to correctly create a SMART goal.
- Create goals that are independent of each other.
Last year, I set as many as 3 dependent goals. 1. Promote the site. ↳2. Earn money from it. ↳3. Hire 4 people for the team. The first goal was not achieved, and automatically dependent goals were not completed. - Distribute the load.
Last year, I wrote sports goals that were difficult for me - all with a load on my arms.Do 200 push-ups.
- Iron cross on rings.
- Learn to play tennis.
- Get used to walking on your hands
I just learned to play tennis. The rest were not completed.
Goal: do 200 push-ups. My old record is 108, but I reached 101 times. If I bet 120 times, I would have achieved it. I was afraid of complexity and put it off. And if it worked, I would finish it up to 150-200 times.
Three years ago I returned from training. In a wave of delight, without thinking, I entered as many as 7 goals - all difficult. He didn’t even take a step towards them.
Analysis of the past
Before you start making a plan, you need to think back to the previous year. It is very important to have a pen and paper at hand at this time. For yourself you can write:
- What goals did you set for last year?
- What have you achieved? Why?
- What didn't work out? Why?
Carefully analyze all the questions for yourself. Were these goals really important to you? Was the effort spent worth the result? Only after you have a clear picture of the past year in your head can you proceed to the next point.
How to make a final life plan for the year
In the list, we place the spheres themselves so that the more in demand is higher. Ideally, one aspect of life is to prioritize the year in which we want to achieve a breakthrough. Usually, this is the area that worries us most and ruins our lives. It is desirable that the remaining goals work for the main sphere or at least do not interfere.
For me this year, the main thing is to move forward in the “Career” direction - I’m moving it up. I read books for knowledge on the project. Into the rocking chair for energy. Experiments for articles. Everything in general is for happiness.
Sausage is the main thing
For a beginner, the main goal of drawing up a plan is to gain planning experience, complete it 100%, deservedly be happy for yourself and feel growth above the circumstances.
The plan for the year should be flexible: there was no such thing that I did not complete 15–20 goals. We leave room for something new by 25%, this is every fourth goal. Usually, I keep some of my goals in a separate list, outside the plan. When I redo everything, I add them.
Open my final plan.
I write down a list of plans for my life in a notebook.
On sheet A4 I draw a map of goals.
How to properly structure goals and objectives
In order to make your dreams come true as simply as possible, the formulated goals should be placed in the correct order. Firstly, such a plan will be much easier to read. In addition, most likely, you will remember it well and follow it. There are many ways to design a plan. Each person should do what is convenient for him. It is especially important that you like the plan.
For example, you can often find collage plans. Each goal is supported by a vivid illustration. For those who love a strict style, a table plan is suitable. In a word, we can say that in this case the flight of imagination is limitless. It is only important that all goals are clearly visible on the plan, and you do not need to search for them with your eyes for a long time.
Some tips for the future
These recommendations will help you not only better plan for the next year, but also more effectively implement your plans.
- Maintain motivation (use visualization method );
- Be patient;
- Use positive attitudes in your head;
- Stop blaming others;
- Start analyzing your actions;
- Learn good habits .
If it is difficult to understand what you want from life, then use the services of a specialist (for example, a psychologist). He can help you understand yourself and start improving!
Planning for the new year is a serious thing that needs to be approached responsibly. If you really work hard and put in the effort, you will definitely be proud of yourself. Let goal setting bring you only positive emotions and accelerate personal growth.

Superstitions and signs about planning a family budget
When planning your budget for the year, it would be a good idea to take into account various folk signs related to money.
- Don't borrow money on Monday, otherwise you risk never seeing it again.
- You cannot pass banknotes from hand to hand: it is believed that it is better to first put them on the table.
- Another bad omen is to lend money in the evening. If you must do this, place the money on the floor and let another person pick it up.
- It is better to repay loans in the morning and in small bills.
- When a debt is returned to you, put your left hand in your pocket and fold the fig.
- Store money in your wallet carefully: put it in a special compartment, unfolded, and distribute it according to face value.
- Place paper bills with the front side facing you.
- Place a piece of wood from a swallow's nest in your wallet. This amulet will protect you from bankruptcy.
- Having received a large amount of money, take one bill from there and keep it with you as a talisman.
- Never give an empty wallet.
- The following ritual will help you attract money: you need to put a coin in each corner and say “Let it come to my house.”
- Use red envelopes or bags to store your savings.
- Start a money tree at home and take care of it.
- Money loves counting. When you receive change, always count it.
- Make sure your wallet is not empty. Never give away your last money.
- If there is a small child in the house, put money under his pillow.
- Recalculate your savings on Maundy Thursday.
- Discussing other people's material problems is a bad omen.
- Don't judge people based on whether they are rich or poor, otherwise you may end up with nothing.
- It is believed that if a cat is stretching, this is a good sign.
- But seeing an evil cat in a dream means theft.
- Having a cat or dog in the house attracts wealth.
- There is a belief that a black cat or dog protects the house from theft.
There are also signs that tell you how to attract wealth in the new year:
- Before the celebration, put on new socks and underwear, and do a festive hairstyle.
- At the table, try seven different dishes and place seven coins under the chair.
- Distribute all debts before the New Year, even right during the celebration.
- During the chiming clock, make a wish related to material success, holding a coin in your left hand.
- Throw money into a glass of champagne and drink it. Afterwards you can wear this coin as a talisman.
- On the first day of the new year, wash your face with water and coins.
What you shouldn’t do if you don’t want financial problems:
- put empty bottles on the table;
- sit on the table;
- keep money on the table;
- sweep up trash in the evening;
- stand on the threshold;
- whistle at home;
- exchange big money for small ones.
Perhaps the most important thing is to handle money carefully, not to crush or tear it, and not to leave your wallet empty. Some people prefer not to pay attention to such superstitions, but some are confident that following them helps achieve material well-being just like proper budget planning.
