Think positive! - a famous phrase, isn’t it? This is how we are called to be positive. Judging by the number of people calling, you might think that we are the only ones sitting in depression, but around... everything is so rosy, wonderful and lovely.
“Think positively,” say optimists. “Heads up! Don’t be discouraged,” they encourage.
But it’s not so easy to stay afloat all the time! At least for very, very many people.
In general, what is “positive”? Why is this a way of thinking and life in general for some, while for others it works as a powerful irritant?
How is it that some people are too positive and others are not positive enough? Does positivity have boundaries? And how can you finally become more positive?
What is positivity and how to get there
Positivity implies positive emotions, cheerful thoughts, energetic intentions. Positivity allows you to feel happy without the interference of many illegal drugs. Positivity has its function to cure a person!
How many stories does humanity know of people with cancer being completely cured by switching to positive thinking? For example, one of these women said that she watched old comedies and laughed until she cried. And a few months later, her fatal diagnosis lost ground, soon disappearing entirely. Even if such examples are few, they do exist and give us hope.
But why can’t a person just take it and start thinking positively? After all, life would improve throughout the entire Earth in less than a year! What prevents everyone from being positive? How does it feel to be positive?
Rules for positive thinking
To understand how to learn to think in such a way as to control thoughts, feelings, actions and fate itself, you need to adopt the rules of positive thinking:
- Take a simpler approach to life, don’t complicate it. An obstacle is an opportunity for growth and development, not a tragedy. In a difficult situation, you need to remove bad thoughts from your head and act, believing in the best.
- Enjoy simple things, enjoy every moment of life and give joy to others. A smile, a kind word, selfless help, ease and simplicity in communication help to feel happiness and satisfaction with life. It is better to express your thoughts to others with kindness and positivity, then they will respond in kind.
- Do not support empty conversations about illness, poverty and other troubles, do not communicate with “difficult” people. This is the principle of reasonable egoism. There are people who try to “infect” with negativity, voluntarily or unwittingly, while their goal is simply to complain about life, quarrel or gossip. If such people are offered ways to solve their problems or asked to change the topic, they will reject the proposals, as they are determined to “swim” in negativity, so it is better to avoid them.
- Do not overload yourself with streams of unnecessary information, negative news, programs and films that irritate or cause anxiety. Every day a huge amount of false and true, but unnecessary information comes from outside. You need to be able to “block” this flow at the right moments.
- Live a full life. Having time to work and relax, paying attention to all areas and spheres of life is the only way to maintain harmony and peace of mind. Active recreation, communication with interesting people, being in nature is better than endless dull lying on the sofa.
- Love and value yourself. How to learn to control your thoughts when the value of your own “I” and your life is lost? For people who don't love themselves, the concept of positive thinking is difficult to accept. They don’t think about how to think correctly because they don’t believe in the possibility of happiness for themselves.
- Develop as a person. Many people come to understand how to think for themselves correctly. This knowledge is acquired through experience and wisdom. People involved in development, who love to study and learn new useful information, find the answer to many questions, including the question of how to learn to control their thoughts in books on psychology.

- on luck and success, not on failures.
You need to express your thoughts consciously and positively, understanding that the quality of life depends on it.
Positivity and temperament
If this were a simple task, then lessons in positivity would be taught in school, but even here there are obstacles. The simplest explanation, or rather the “difficulties of positivity,” lies in temperament.
Most people are familiar with the division of the population of planet Earth into choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic and melancholic. It is also known that choleric people are hyperactive, and melancholic people are very depressed people.
It follows that choleric people are born positive, they really see the world brighter, time is much more dynamic for them, and emotions are always at their best. Almost nothing can knock them down; they look sadness in the face, laughing boisterously. What causes obvious distrust among melancholic people.
It will be very difficult for the latter to see the world as shiny and rich, since such people are very happy with the calm colors of everyday life. They usually float with the flow, without looking around once again. It would seem that since he seems to be happy with everything, why should he even think about the positive?
And yet, choleric people sometimes need to be pacified, and melancholic people need to be pulled out of the shadows. Both tasks are difficult, but sometimes a person comes into a period when he clenches his hands into fists and says to the world menacingly, “I want to be happy!” And actions to acquire a mass of positive things come into force.
How to learn not to think about bad things?
Any (negative or positive) consciously launched thought, repeated enough times over a certain period of time, can turn into a program. Understanding this, a person can force himself not to think about bad things. Because, for example, if for many years a person has been replaying the thought in his mind that he will always live in poverty, then in this way he creates a program in his subconscious, for the implementation of which he does not even need to think about it. Each person is capable of building his future consciously only through the course of his thinking. By working on positive thoughts and forming new patterns in oneself, a person can develop a subconscious program for success. Realizing this, each person is able to help himself, and thus learn not to think about the bad.
And in order to accomplish this faster, a person should imagine that at the moment of his thoughts he is spreading vibrations of the finest etheric substance around him. The human eye is unable to see thoughts just like gas. Thought is a subtle configuration of matter. Negative thoughts would become dark in color and look like thunderclouds. Happy, clear, positive thoughts would be colored in light colors and would be close to light, gaseous clouds. When an individual spreads bad thoughts around, he becomes an object for their influence. Annoying or fearful thoughts attract similar thoughts to themselves, uniting with them into a powerful conglomerate. As a result, a negatively inclined person will suffer not only because of his own bad thoughts, but because of the negative thoughts of others, which will only worsen the condition.
The longer an individual thinks along these lines, the more difficult his internal state and position will be. A person who is in a positive mood and has happy thoughts will attract similar thoughts and will feel happier and more joyful.
And yet, how else can you convince yourself not to think about bad things if negative thoughts constantly creep into your head? An internal dialogue will help get rid of interfering thoughts, in which the person must ask himself, what exactly is he afraid of? Often fears are associated with loss of career, illness or accident. Most fears are not related to the real state of things. What is the point of being afraid of losing your career right now if you are a highly qualified specialist. Why worry about getting sick if you are healthy? And why should an accident happen to you if you are careful and attentive?
Of course, there is a percentage of unpredictability, and no one can guarantee that everything will always be good. But is it worth spending your life living in constant fear, worry and apathy? As they say, what can happen cannot be avoided, and most of the problems invented by man can be solved, and what cannot be solved must be let go and not worry about it.
How to force your brain to change the course of your life
What is written in the comments and the article itself is indirectly related to real meditation. You won’t be able to think. This is a function of the brain. What most people do (knowingly and not so well) is the preparatory stage, which consists in developing the skill of managing attention. An important skill, but it is not meditation. You can draw, work, eat with attention and it will not be technically different from sitting on your butt and concentrating on breathing. In practice: Pose. Its main criteria are a straight back, an upright position, comfort (lotuses/Turkish, in general, are not needed, it is comfortable if the joints are developed and there is nothing to support the butt with) you can even sit on a chair. The pose is considered suitable if you do not fall asleep (without being tired) and can sit in it throughout the entire practice without discomfort. I am sitting in a half lotus on Preparation. It would seem that it could be easier to manage your own attention. Ironically, this is the most difficult task in a person's life. Without this well-developed ability, you are unlikely to achieve any results in your future meditation practice. It consists of taking the practice pose (above) and starting to concentrate on the object with your eyes closed. It is important to select the object individually. This can be an image (usually a meditating guru/teacher/Gautama - those for whom there is sincere and deep respect, reverence, who inspires). Or maybe a physical sensation - warmth from hands stacked on top of each other, breathing. To develop attention, it is best to choose breathing, because you need to keep count. The main task is not to intensify the attention itself, not to exert a lot of tension, but to simply learn to maintain it without being distracted (so much so that you lose count). Inhale-1 exhale-2, inhale-3…. when you reach 30-40, you can complicate it and count the cycles: inhale-exhale-1; inhale-exhale-2 There is no need to interfere and control the breathing process, it’s like counting the ticking of a clock. The frequency of practice is 2 times a day for 15 minutes, can be gradually increased to 25-30 minutes
A couple of months of this practice will allow you to develop mindfulness noticeably enough for it to help you in life.
